Girls, I can't believe today is our final day of school. I am so sad that I can't be there in person today to wish you all a final goodbye and best wishes for the next year.
The last few months have been challenging for everybody, but you have made me so proud to be your teacher.
Receiving your emails was always the highlight of my day, and I was so happy to see what you have been up to; baking, exercising, creating beautiful pieces of artwork. Your creativity and enthusiasm to learn continued to impress me each week. You should be so proud of yourselves for an outstanding year of learning. Remember to check out the 'gallery' for photos of your classmates, there are new photos of some of you participating in the sports day. Rebecca has also put together an incredible newsletter which I uploaded to the gallery for you to download.
I'm sure you are eager to return to school and I have no doubt you will make excellent leaders of the school as 6th class girls. It's been such a pleasure getting to know you all. You each bring something unique to the class and I always enjoyed teaching you.
Thank you for being such an amazing class.
I hope you have a wonderful summer.
Ms Kirwan

Final week of school
Hello girls!
Wow! We finally made it to the last week in 5th class. It only seems like yesterday since we’ve all been in school together, but over 3 months have passed since we’ve seen each other. You’ve all done so well, managing to keep up with your learning, and I hope you are all so proud of yourselves for the amount of work you have done.
I would like to thank your busy parents for giving you the support you needed, and keeping me in the loop by sending me emails. I don’t think you’ll ever forget the end of 5th class!
I’m sorry I can’t say farewell to you in person, so I’ve added some ‘Wishes’ for you down below in the form of a picture book youtube video. I hope you like it!
I’ll pop up the maths revision sheet answers at the end of the week. I’ve also added a fun suggestion for each day this week, which I think you’ll enjoy.
Well done again for all the hard work over the last few months!
Have a lovely summer,
Ms Kirwan
PS. Please let me know via email how many Sports Day activities you completed. Thanks to those who have already done so...a certificate is on its way to you! Check out some great Sports Day photos on the School News section of the website, kindly updated by Ms Colgan.

Virtual School Tour to Ellis Island, New York Harbour!
I bet when you were in school a few months ago you never would have guessed you would be going on your school tour to America!
You’ll know from your lessons on The Irish Famine, that many people emigrated to America. Their first stop off those ships was at Ellis Island. It was here that their fate was decided, would they be allowed to stay or have to return home?

Homework 15th- 26th June
Hello Girls!
This is the second last week of school. Can you believe it?
This week the choice board is for the next 2 weeks. That means you can spread out the activities over 2 weeks instead of one. As before, we'd like you to try and do one activity from each horizontal row. The choice is yours!
Sports day:
Both myself and Ms McManus have had so much fun creating a Sports Day/Week that you can complete at home! Below you’ll see a choice board of 15 Sports activities. You need to download the PDF so that you can access the links on each section. From there, you’ll see ideas and videos that will help you set up a Sports Day/Week in your home! You might like to do one activity each day, spread it out over a week, or do all activities in one day.
Everyone who takes part will receive an electronic certificate via email.
How to earn your certificate:
- We also have a special competition for obstacle courses. Whoever designs the most creative obstacle course will receive a special certificate and a photo of their obstacle course will be uploaded onto the School Blog for everyone to see.
- You also have the option of sending in your results. Click forms.gle/dc94HN4cwQp5stHw7 to add in your results for some of the fun events!.
- We’d love to see your photos of your Covid 19 Sports Day, so make sure you send them in! Remember, there needs to be more than one person in the photo, so we can upload to the blog.
PS. Why not organise something nice to eat for the finale. An ice-lolly, some juice or maybe a bag of popcorn would go down a treat!

Homework 8th- 12th June
Hello Girls,
We hope you had a lovely weekend and are ready for the week ahead. We know how hard it is to keep doing your schoolwork in June, but the end is in sight! Next week we hope to have lots of sports ideas here so you can create a Sports Day in your home. Thanks to all of you who sent us positive messages about the choice board. We’re delighted you’re enjoying it! There are a few girls I have not heard from in a while. Please email me this week as I’d love to hear what you’re up to and how you’ve been spending your time.
We are using the same format as last week for homework. We suggest that you do some Maths each day. It’s revision and will jog your memories. The Irish can be completed in one sitting, or you might like to spread it out over a couple of days. I hope you’re all still doing some reading. You have a choice of reading each day and completing a record of it, or doing the story on Dragons in the comprehension booklet.
Remember that you need to download the PDF file to access the links on the choice board. As before, you may choose to do all the activities or pick two or three that appeal to you.It would be a good idea to pick one activity from each horizontal row.
This week I would like you to send me;
Happy birthday to Lily who is celebrating her birthday today. We hope you have a great day!
Have a lovely week,
Ms Kirwan
PS: Would you like to be part of the largest PE class in Meath? The class will take place on June 24th, but you need to register beforehand. Download the PDF link below and follow the instructions for registering!

Hi girls!
Hope you enjoyed the new homework format this week. I can't wait to see some of your work from the optional activities on the choice board. Make sure to email them to me if you'd like any to be put on the blog!
Famous Friday: If you could have dinner with any famous person, who would it be, and why?
My family were discussing this question at the dinner table yesterday and it was great to hear all their answers.
I thought you might enjoy thinking about it today or discussing it with your family at home. You could email me your answer if you like. Hope you enjoy the conversations!
Happy birthday to Doireann who will be celebrating her birthday on Sunday. We hope you enjoy your day!
Have a great weekend,
Ms Kirwan

Homework 2nd - 5th June
Hi Girls!
Hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend and feel well rested after enjoying the sun.
Well done for all of your hard work for the last few months. Now that we are in June, we will be changing the work format slightly.
Your homework this week consists of English, Gaeilge and Maths. The table below outlines what activities to do.
We have also included a ‘choice board’ which you can see below.
How to use the choice board:
Think of this as a ‘menu’ that you can choose from. It consists of fun activities for you to complete. You can do all of the activities if you like, or you may pick one activity to do each day that appeals to you. By the end of the week, it would be fantastic if you had completed one activity from each horizontal row (e.g. you might decide to do History, SPHE and Art, or maybe you’d prefer to do Science, P.E. and music.) The choice is yours! We hope you find this fun.
How to access the choice board:
The choice board is downloadable as a pdf file, which will open links that may help you complete the work. The file is found below the picture, and says 'download file'.
Alternatively, I have uploaded a picture of the choice board, but you will not be able to click the links unless you download the file. Please note, I have included the links and photos you need to all activities below, as normal.
This week, we would like you to send us:

Work 25th - 29th May
Hello Girls!
It’s hard to believe that this is the last week in May. Usually, this means the end of all the hard work in school, and we start planning a month of fun for June. We would usually be looking forward to our school tour, the talent show, sports day and clearing our classrooms. It’s a great feeling when you see those books being finished!
Well Ms McManus and myself have been chatting about how hard you’ve worked during March, April and May. We are so impressed with how you’ve managed to keep doing the Maths, English and Irish lessons from home. In the month of June, we’ll still have homework, but will try to include some fun activities like art, PE, SPHE, music and SESE. If you have any ideas you’d like us to include during June, why not email us and we’ll see if we can organise it. So keep your eyes peeled on the blog during the month of June!
I’ll be happy to help and receive some updates.
Have a nice week,
Ms Kirwan

- This week we’d like you to send us a picture of your English 'Experiences During Covid 19’. Please make a special effort with this piece of homework. Mrs McCloughan has decided that we’ll keep a record of all your stories about Covid 19. They’ll be kept as an historical document about children’s lives during this very strange time. Children in 10 or 20 years time will be reading your stories…so best handwriting!!
I’ll be happy to help and receive some updates.

Hi Girls,
Above, you may notice I have included a pdf file called 'virtual classroom ms k'. I have been updating my technology skills and have designed a virtual classroom for us. You need to click 'download file' on the link above the photo in order for it to work. Once it's downloaded, you can explore the photo for hidden links to online books that you might want to use. Just click on the posters/ books and it should bring you directly to the online site. This is not mandatory, but I think you might find it fun. I certainly enjoyed designing it!!
Thank you to everyone who sent in their recipes and photos of their baking last week. It made me very hungry seeing all the delicious treats you were making!
Have a look at our ‘gallery’ section to see your classmates’ recipes. I was amazed at the effort that you put in. It's lovely to see all the different styles of presentation. If you didn't get round to sending in a recipe yet, and would still like to do so, it's not too late!
This week, we are continuing with your regular learning homework and English, Irish and Maths activities daily.
We are moving onto a new SESE topic; The Famine. We will be learning lots about it over the next few weeks. This week is just an introduction to the topic, and we have short activities for you to do each day. We ask you to make a KWL chart (or print/copy the one we provide) so that you can use this to keep track of all the new facts you will learn about The Famine.
KWL stands for: K(what I already know), W(what I want to know) and L(what I have learned).
This week, we would like you to email us:
Remember, your parents can email us if you have any questions about your work, if you need some help, or if you want to show us any of the work that you have been doing. We love hearing about how you’re getting on!
My email is [email protected]
Remember, contact can only be made through a parent's email, please do not email me from your own personal email.
I have been chatting to Frances and she has been asking about you all and hopes you are getting on well.
Best of luck with your activities this week, we hope you are enjoying them!
Stay safe,
Ms Kirwan

Hi Girls!
We hope you’re keeping well.
Please see below the work for this week. We are giving you your normal learning homework (spellings, tables & Gaeilge verb) as well as some activities for you to do each day.For maths this week, we are learning about weight. This should be a delight for all you girls who’ve been baking and cooking while you've been at home. Try your best!
This week I’d love for you to send me a recipe and picture of something you’ve made while you’ve been off school. This is only a suggestion, so if you haven’t made anything yet don’t panic!! You could maybe write a recipe for something you might like to make in the future. It would be lovely to share the recipes then on our blog for everyone to read and maybe try out at home. It will also help us put into practice all that ‘weight’ vocabulary we’re learning about in maths this week.
We hope you enjoy the lessons this week. I love getting your emails and seeing how you’re getting on with the work I’ve been setting you. As always, remember your work should have a heading, a date and neat handwriting.
I’m looking forward to seeing your recipes and pictures come flooding in to me!

Hello Girls!
Please find below the homework for this week.
This week please send us:
· Your Irish paragraph on your favourite TV programme on Friday 8th May.
Only send it in when you have the other Irish lessons for the week completed. All of the lessons will help you write your paragraph. Hint! We notice that only a couple of girls are logging in to practice their Irish phrases on quizlet. It will really help you with learning the new vocabulary, if you practice them before doing the lessons.
Well done to all the girls who sent in their geography sheet on rivers. You did a great job!
We hope you’re still doing your library reading time. If you’re running out of books to read, please ask your parents to send me an email, and I’ll send a link to some online books.
I hope you enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.

Hello Girls!
I would like to thank you for sending me on some lovely emails last week. Some of you wrote to tell me about all the lovely things you've been doing while you've been at home. A couple of you sent in pictures of some Easter art that you did, and I've put those on our gallery page.
I would really recommend for you to watch RTE Homeschool Hub if you can. There is an outline below the homework which tells you what you can expect to see and learn on the show!
Please find the homework for the week ahead laid out below. This week, I'd like you to email me;
Finally, I emailed your parents a booklet about wellbeing. There are some lovely pages in it which focuses on the positive things in our lives. Your parents can print it out, and you can work on it at your own pace. I'll also be uploading some pictures of the booklet on the blog here each week, for any of you who don't have printing facilities. You could use the ideas from the pages to make a little diary/journal.

Hello girls!
Hope you all had a lovely Easter. As before, I'll put up the homework here for the week ahead. There are Maths, English and Gaeilge activities, for each day. There's also some extra maths work at the end should anybody be looking for 'more'.
I sent an email to your parents to see how you're getting on with the work. I'd like you to send me in the Wednesday maths homework from your parent's email. The sheet needed to complete the activity has been sent to your parent.
If you did some of the Easter dioramas, ask your parents if you can send me a photo of it to my email and I'll put those in the gallery.
I think there might be one or two girls in the class who's parents had not provided the school with an email address. If this is so, ask your Mam or Dad to email me at [email protected] and I'll send you on the sheets you need.
Please note that any contact made with teacher must be through a parents email.
I sent an email to parents 20th April at 9am. Some parents have contacted me to say the email arrived in their junkmail. So maybe have a check in there. If you didn't receive any email, please email me at the address above, and I'll be happy to send it again.

Easter HolidaysToday is the beginning of your Easter Holidays! We will not be giving you any homework over the next two weeks. You have been working very hard and deserve to take a break! I would recommend to continue reading and exercising, as well as helping out at home with cooking/cleaning/chores!
We also have an exciting arts/crafts activity that you might like to do over the next fortnight called ‘Egg Diorama’. For this you will need: - eggs (Cadbury’s Easter Eggs, mini eggs, real eggs etc.) - a shoe box/cardboard box/cereal box. Take a look at some of our samples below, be as creative as you like! After the Easter holidays, you will be able to send me some pictures of your work via email. I would love to see some of your ‘Egg Dioramas’ so make sure to take photos of your artwork! I will be uploading the photos onto our class blog for the rest of your classmates to see. This is just a suggestion, you do not have to do it. An update of results from the parents survey can be found in the 'Note to Parents' below. Wishing you all good health and a lovely Easter, Ms Kirwan |

Here are the corrections for your homework this week.
Please complete Friday's homework first and then self-correct.
Hope you got on well with your work and are in good spirits!
Dear Parents,
I would like to thank you for your co-operation during the last few weeks, and for completing the homework survey. The results are as follows for this class as of Sunday 29th March:
36% found the work perfect, 18% wanted more, and 46% wanted less.
Updated results as of Thursday 2nd April:
55% found the work perfect, 12% wanted more, 33% wanted less.
As you can see, this is quite a range of responses. This is to be expected, as every child has a different learning pace, different interests and different abilities. Lots of children benefit from routine and for that reason, we have tried to continue with homework as usual to provide some normality for the children. We also understand that some children are sharing technology with other siblings and that many parents are trying to work from home. We do not want to add any extra stress or pressure to pupils/parents during these already difficult times.
We would like to remind all parents that the work we provide is merely a suggestion of work that you could do with your child. By no means is it required for children to complete all aspects of work. Whilst it is important that children try their best with these activities, it is no problem if they cannot be completed.
Below, you'll find the work laid out for the week ahead.
I would advise to do English, Maths and learning homework everyday, now spread out over 5 days (including Friday).
Irish & SESE activities will be listed in the extra box below homework for those who would like more work. We often find in school that those children who are finished first, often find errors when they're encouraged to check over their work. Neatness, and careful presentation is probably more beneficial than completing large quantities of work that require correction. Those who complete all activities could do further reading, keep a diary or do some creative writing. We now have a new blog page dedicated to extra/fun activities that your child could choose some further work from.
Thank you for your genuine responses to the survey. I hope the adjustments we've outlined below will help you in the week ahead.
Kind Regards,
Ms Kirwan

Hello Girls,
It's hard to believe that it's the start of another week. If we had been in school, we'd be getting Easter Holidays this coming Friday!
I hope you're all enjoying the school work, it's good to have a bit of routine. I know that things are a little different right now, but I am so proud of you for keeping up with your work and trying your best. One to two hours of school work is really enough while you're at home from school. Remember, if you're finding any of the tasks hard, ask your mam or dad if you can call a friend for help! That's exactly what I've been doing, when trying to get some new ideas for your homework here.
The extra time at home is a good opportunity to practice some of the hobbies, you normally wouldn't have time for. I know lots of you are excellent at drawing, art, baking, gymnastics, crochet and music to name but a few. Continue to practice these, you'll be experts by the time you get back to school. I've been doing lots of reading, baking and going for a walk every day.
Good luck with the activities for this week. Help your parents around the house, and remember to keep your distance if out getting exercise, at least 2 metres apart. Keep washing your hands, and stay safe.
Ms Kirwan
It's hard to believe that it's the start of another week. If we had been in school, we'd be getting Easter Holidays this coming Friday!
I hope you're all enjoying the school work, it's good to have a bit of routine. I know that things are a little different right now, but I am so proud of you for keeping up with your work and trying your best. One to two hours of school work is really enough while you're at home from school. Remember, if you're finding any of the tasks hard, ask your mam or dad if you can call a friend for help! That's exactly what I've been doing, when trying to get some new ideas for your homework here.
