Below are some activities that you might be interested in.
They are optional so please don’t feel pressure to do them. They are just for fun!
Maths
- Follow a recipe with a family member. Help them to weigh the ingredients that you need
- Estimate and measure the length of objects in your house( you can use a ruler or measuring tape)
- Go on a 2D and/or 3d shape hunt in your house/ garden and record the shapes that you find. Record how many faces and edges that these shapes have
- Practice your times tables- choose a number between 1-12 and write down all of its multiples. Challenge yourself by timing yourself and see if you can beat your time the next time round!!
- Ask a family member to draw a symmetrical picture. Fold their picture in half and see if you can draw the missing half as symmetrically as you can.
- Write a timetable of your day. You can use analogue or digital time. You could include things such as; what time you woke up at, what time you ate breakfast/lunch/dinner, when you played/ did school work, what time you went to bed etc.
English
- Write a review of the last movie that you watched. Include information about the characters, the plot and the setting. Would you recommend this movie? Why/ Why not?
- Imagine you are working for a magazine and you are about to interview your favourite celebrity- Write about who the celebrity is and a list of question you could ask them
- Make a comic strip of your favourite part of the book you are reading.
- Write a story with the title “ When my pet began to talk”
- Write about what you would do if you were the President of Ireland for a day
- Read a book/ short story to a sibling or family member
- Write instructions on how to make your favourite snack
- If you had 3 wishes, what would they be? Write a short paragraph on each of your wishes ( you cannot wish for more wishes!)
- Write a letter to your future selves. Seal it in an envelope and decide on a date to open it!
- Make a newsletter to send to your family members - this could be by hand or by email! Interview siblings, parents, include some images / drawings! Keep family in the loop despite the imposed isolation!
- Create your own word search for a family member to complete. Make sure you write the words you want them to find along the bottom.
- Do some creative writing based on these topics:
Gaeilge
- Revise key vocabulary and phrases using Quizlet
- Mo Nuacht (see below)
- Revision of verbs

Try to incorporate Irish into daily activities. As well as cartoons on TG4, you can play games such as “I spy” (Feicim le mo shúilín) as Gaeilge and perhaps put labels (lipéid) on items around the house. There are some useful websites online to support the learning of Irish (mar shampla Duo Lingo agus Seomra Ranga).
SESE
Art
- Collect a selection of fruits. Are they all the same? Do you know what they look like inside? Look inside, what patterns do you notice?
- Imagine what your life would be like without plastic: Write a story or create a comic strip for ‘a life with- out plastic’. Are all plastics the same? Do they all float?
- Make a list using words/ drawings to find all the things in your home that use electricity. If you could keep only one item which would it be? Why?
- Design and make a paper aeroplane that will travel the furthest.
- Design and make a spaceship. Label the parts to explain how it works.
Art
- Make some junk art using recyclable materials- egg cartons, cereal boxes etc. Use some cellotape or glue and get creative!
- Design your ideal house; how many rooms would it have, what furniture would you like, what type of fabrics/colours would you use etc
- Finish the doodle
- Make a collage using magazines/newspapers

- Have someone in your family sit for you while you draw their portrait. Can you do the whole family? Why not find a mirror and do a self-portrait? Maybe you can even catch a pet sleeping and draw them. See if you can add some interesting backgrounds like we did for Van Gogh!

- Random acts of Kindness: design your own calendar and see how many kind things you can do for other people and for yourself!

- Go on a Grateful hunt: Can you find; a favourite spot in your house, a sound you love to hear, something in your home with a beautiful pattern/colour, a smell you love, something in your home that reminds you of a happy time, a favourite food, something in your home that reminds you of someone you love/your favourite place
- Bucket list: (you will need a jar and some paper/post its). Every time you wish you could do something, go somewhere, visit a new place/ invite people to visit us, do an activity etc. write it down on a post it note and put in a jar. When all of this is over this can be your personal bucket list that you can work through and be grateful for all of the little and lovely things in your life. Until then you can enjoy watching the jar fill up with magical things to look forward to. Invite your families to take part too!
